FUE hair transplant is one of the most advanced surgical hair restoration methods available today. What is meant by FUE? This involves extraction of the follicular unit and can provide a much better (almost stunning) cosmetic result when compared to the older types of punch grafts and incision band grafts. Also, it scars much less than the other methods.
In transplantation, the area where the hair was taken is
called the donor area. In the older method, a whole strip of skin is cut from
the back of the head. This usually leaves a sizeable scar at the nape of the
neck – hence the short haircut; even if the hair
transplant is 110% successful. Even worse, these scars can stretch and
become disfiguring features of the neck.
Why is FUE the better choice when it comes to hair
transplants? Well, the main reasons are:
1. Scars are almost invisible.
2. It is suitable for people with very little donor hair (Norwood 6).
3. Suitable for anyone with a "tight scalp".
4. If you want to cut your hair short afterwards, then FUE is the only option.
5. Healing time is much shorter in FUE transplant.
Before undergoing a FUE transplant, a qualified surgeon must first check that you are healthy. The amount of donor hair and the density of the hair determines how much of the bald area on your scalp can be effectively covered. You can always get a hair transplant - the question is how much coverage you get.
In this type of transplant, hair is collected in small follicular units (1-3 hairs) and transplanted directly to the scalp. These feathers are transplanted directly from the donor site without needing to cut a single piece of skin. There is a scar at the donor site, but it's about the size of a pin prick in your skin - you'll need a magnifying glass to find it.
Older types of hair transplants become obsolete very quickly - simply because FUE has proven so successful. With this type of hair transplant, more than 8,000 hairs are transplanted into a patient in one session. That means you have one hair transplant, you get cured, and then you spend the next 12 months watching all the new hair grow back on your head... and no one will be sure how it happened.
And how expensive is this procedure? Well, it depends on which doctor you go to, but prices range from $3 to $8 per hair transplant (follicle unit). It's not cheap, but it's a way to permanently solve your hair loss problem, folks!
